Where to start In Internet Marketing?

And Ain’t that the Question?  When I first started in Internet marketing eleven years ago I had no idea what Internet marketing was, no idea what an affiliate was, in fact I was so ignorant I could not even spell affiliate, let alone define it.

There is a lot of paid and free information out there but you do not need to tell me it is exhausting even knowing where to start. There are lots of people giving advice, unfortunately there a lot of people giving advice that either does not work, has not been tested or was old fashioned before the Internet evolved.

The Internet by its very nature changes every day. For you youngsters you may not even realize that when the internet first came into existence it was about sharing information. The first email read “please bring toothbrush” because a university professor left his at home. There was not a protocol to spend money that was to come much later.

Once that protocol happened it was to spawn what was called a dot.com boom. Unfortunately like the South Sea bubble this was built on unsound business practices and it went the way of all bubbles a little more spectacularly maybe, but it still burst. Although my learning curve was hard it was not as hard as most people’s, I had the advantage of having had a hugely successful offline business.

There are a lot of people out there that do not know what they are talking about and there are a few giants that have been selling things for years and have sound credentials. Now this is not an exercise in typing my typing skills although I do need it, – but that is another story. It is the beginning of what will be one of the greatest free resources available in online education today. I am looking for volunteers to sit in on my lessons and make money.

What Are My credentials

I began making money online because I had to. I was living in a foreign country with a language I could not speak. I was looking after elderly and frail parents in their late eighties and I could not even leave the house for extended periods. I began my writing career with Rent a Coder as it was then virtually the only company offering that sort of service. It allowed me to bid for jobs and when they were completed I got paid.Back then over 99.50% were coders there were few writers and I was always number 2 (I was never going to get the number 1 slot because I was chasing a company).

There was plenty of work for me, but once I had written the top three selling Clickbank products in a niche I decided that the time had come to make money for myself. To save my sanity I began an Open University computing course and during that course I came across Wealthy affiliates. It had just been started by two young Canadians graduates, who had funded their university education with affiliate marketing. It was quite a new concept, join a membership site and learn Internet Marketing through an eight week course.

It took me a while to join and I intended to stay the eight weeks, but somehow I never left and I still learn from the excellent resources available. I mean when I started there was a whole new vocabulary for me to learn as well as coming to grips with concepts and ideas that were foreign to me. To say I was out of my comfort zone was an understatement

I continue to write because that was where I had the most experience and that was what I was most comfortable doing. In my first year I was an extremely prolific article writer almost before the term bum article marketing had been coined. In my first year of submitting articles to I submitted 987 of them as far as I could tell. My records were not that precise, they did not need to be I was still submitting them for other people.

But the article writing thing gave me a germ of an idea and I found that there were tons of sites spawning up all over the place. The end result is a series of Ebooks that tell it like it is. It is no good telling you how to write, if you can’t drive traffic to your site you may the best written site in the known universe and beyond for that matter but it will not help. You will still have no sales. It is no good driving traffic to a site that does not have the correct product or content.
